A CNC Job Passed Through Too Many Hands to Track on Paper

A single job moves through a real sequence—CAD, CAM, tooling, G-code, production, quality checks, shipment—and each step usually lands with a different person or machine. Tracking that on paper or in scattered spreadsheets meant nobody had a reliable answer to where a job actually stood at any given moment, whether a milestone had been properly signed off before moving to the next stage, or who was responsible when something went wrong. On top of that, employee attendance was tracked separately from all of it, so even basic questions—who was on shift when a step was completed—took digging through multiple records instead of one.

If a job stalled at tooling, I wouldn’t know until someone mentioned it in passing. There was no way to just look and see.

The Solution

Every Job, Every Step, Recorded as It Happens

Admins create a job with the client’s details, a deadline, and a custom sequence of milestones—CAD upload, CAM, tooling, G-code, production, QA, shipment, whatever the job actually requires—and assign it to specific employees and machines. From there, a step-by-step tracker guides the employee through each milestone in order; certain steps require admin sign-off before the job can move to the next stage, so nothing skips ahead without someone actually approving it. Machines get their own inventory and a calendar view for scheduling usage across jobs, and inventory—tools, parts, materials, finishes, inspection items—is searchable right from the job-building screen. Quality issues get logged as NCRs (Non-Conformance Reports) with their own detail views for investigation, and employee attendance is tracked in the same system, both as a general view and per-employee history. Role-based access keeps admins and employees seeing only what’s relevant to them, and a dashboard plus a "Today" view give a live read on what’s in progress and what’s due.

The approval gates were the part that mattered most to me. Nobody can just skip ahead to production without someone actually signing off on tooling first.

A job’s status is no longer something someone has to go find out—it’s visible on the dashboard, at whatever milestone it’s actually sitting on, with a full history of who did what and when. Approval gates mean a job can’t quietly skip a required sign-off, and quality issues get logged as NCRs the moment they’re found instead of living in someone’s notebook. Attendance, machine scheduling, and inventory are all part of the same system instead of three separate ones, so a shop manager isn’t stitching together answers from different sources just to understand what’s actually happening on the floor today.
